What Makes Kimminau Floors the Preferred Choice for Builders

Quality Products
Factory-finished hardwood floors have become increasingly popular, but many pre-finished options we encounter are not designed for refinishing due to a thin wear layer. Imagine building your dream home only to find that your floors need to be completely replaced after just 5 to 10 years. At Kimminau Floors, we exclusively offer factory-finished hardwood options that can be refinished multiple times. Our goal is to provide floors that not only look beautiful but are built to last, offering durability and long-term value for your home.

Hardwood Acclimation

Hardwood floors naturally expand and contract with changes in humidity. It is critical to ensure the home is properly enclosed and the HVAC system is fully operational before delivering and installing the hardwood. This allows the wood to adapt to the home’s normal living conditions, minimizing expansion or contraction after installation. This step is especially important with the growing popularity of wide plank floors, which are more sensitive to environmental changes.

Subfloor Preparation

One of the most common complaints we hear—second only to gaps in the floor—is squeaking. These irritating noises are typically caused by movement in the subfloor, and if not addressed, they can lead to long-term issues. To prevent this, we ensure the subfloor is properly sanded, seams are smoothed, and panels are securely fastened. This not only provides a flatter, more stable surface but also helps prevent squeaks from developing over time.

Unfinished Engineered Planks

In many newly constructed homes, we encounter issues such as crowned or cupped hardwoods and gaps between planks, often due to significant humidity fluctuations.  While proper acclimation could have prevented some of these issues, significant humidity fluctuations still cause movement. Unfinished Engineered planks resist expansion and contraction more effectively than solid hardwoods and, unlike cheap pre-finished options, can be refinished as many times as solid wood floors. This ensures your floors remain stable and beautiful for years to come.

Our boutique showroom in Grandview is thoughtfully designed to guide clients through the selection process, showcasing a wide variety of hardwood species, finishes, and styles. Recommended New Construction Process

At Kimminau Floors, we take pride in providing a complete, turn-key hardwood flooring installation that guarantees a smooth, hassle-free experience from start to finish. Here’s a look at our recommended New Construction process.

Step 1. Plans & Pricing Options

Send us your plans, and within 5 business days, we’ll use our takeoff software to accurately measure the areas designated for hardwood flooring. Based on your needs, we’ll provide a detailed proposal with various pricing options to fit your budget.

Step 2. Selections

Once the budget is approved, your client can schedule a visit to our showroom. Our team of flooring experts will guide them through the selection process, helping them choose from a variety of species, grades, widths, and finishing options to match both style and performance needs.

Step 3. Delivery & Acclimation

Once the home is properly enclosed and the HVAC system is fully operational, it’s ready to receive the hardwood. Our team will deliver the planks 7–10 days before the scheduled installation to ensure proper acclimation.

Step 4. Subfloor Prep & Installation

On the scheduled installation date, our craftsmen will begin by sanding the subfloor seams and securing any loose panels. Once the subfloor is prepped, we apply the appropriate moisture barrier and proceed with installing your hardwood planks.

Step 5. Sand, Stain & Seal

For site-finished floors, our team will sand, stain, and finish your hardwoods using HEPA-certified vacuums to ensure a dust-free environment. We offer a range of custom finishing options to create a truly unique floor that perfectly matches your client’s vision.

Step 6. Apply Final Coat

Once all other trades have completed their work, our craftsmen will return to buff the floors and apply the final coat of finish. This step guarantees a flawless, smooth surface with no imperfections, ensuring your clients receive a perfect, long-lasting floor.

Step 7. Review Maintenance with Client

To complete our turnkey experience, we conduct a final review of the floor with your client and provide guidance on proper maintenance. As part of our service, clients receive a Kimminau Floors cleaning kit, featuring our proprietary solution specifically designed to care for their new floor.

Why Kimminau Floors?

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The ideal time to install hardwood floors is typically after the walls have been primed and before trim and cabinet installation. This allows the hardwood to be installed beneath the trim and cabinets, ensuring a clean, flush finish. However, some builders may prefer to install factory-finished hardwoods after the trim and paint are complete to reduce the risk of potential damage to the planks during the construction process.

Kimminau Floors carries comprehensive insurance coverage, including workers’ compensation, automobile liability, general liability, and umbrella policies. This ensures protection for our team, our clients, and their projects at all times.

Yes, we offer both factory-finished and unfinished hardwood options. We are committed to providing products that can be refinished, and we only offer factory-finished hardwoods that are designed for multiple refinishing cycles, ensuring long-term durability and flexibility.

Before installing hardwood floors, our team carefully sands the seams of the plywood to ensure each panel is flush with the adjoining panels. We also secure the panels by screwing them down to prevent any future movement or squeaking. This thorough preparation creates a stable foundation that ensures a smooth, long-lasting hardwood floor installation.

Once the floors are in place, we recommend using a high-quality, durable protective covering such as heavy-duty cardboard or specialized floor protection products. These materials help shield the floors from dirt, spills, and heavy foot traffic from other trades.
