Homeowners, builders, remodelers, and commercial GC’s have trusted Kimminau Floors to provide quality craftsmanship for the past 20 years!
Customized patterned hardwood floors are uniquely designed flooring installations that incorporate intricate patterns or layouts to elevate the aesthetic appeal of a space. Unlike traditional straight-laid hardwood planks, patterned hardwood floors are arranged in specific designs, such as herringbone, chevron, parquet, or custom geometric patterns, to create visual interest and add a touch of sophistication.
These floors are highly customizable, allowing homeowners to choose the wood species, plank sizes, stains, and finishes to match their personal style and complement their interior décor. Whether it’s a timeless parquet design in a formal dining room or a bold chevron pattern in a modern entryway, customized patterned hardwood floors bring artistry and elegance to any space while increasing the home’s value.

The process starts with an in-depth consultation, where we listen to your vision and guide you in selecting the ideal flooring. This can take place either in your home or at our showroom. We’ll carefully assess all the key factors to ensure we find the perfect flooring solution that fits your style, needs, and space.
Once you've selected your product and your installation schedule is set, the hardwood will be delivered 7-10 days prior to your scheduled start date. This important step allows the hardwood planks to acclimate to your home’s temperature and humidity levels. While it may seem like a minor detail, proper acclimation is crucial to ensuring your floors perform at their best. Don’t skip this step—it’s essential for a successful installation.
We’ve partnered with trusted professionals who specialize in carefully moving furniture and belongings. They will handle this task quickly and carefully, ensuring everything is protected during the refinishing process.
We safely remove old flooring materials like carpet, tile, hardwood, and vinyl, then inspect and prepare the subfloor. We address imperfections and level uneven areas, screw down loose panels, ensuring a clean, stable foundation for your new floors to ensure long-lasting squeak free performance.
On the scheduled start date, our NWFA-certified craftsmen will arrive to install your hardwood planks, ensuring that every detail meets the high standards set by the National Wood Flooring Association.
Once the new planks are installed, we’ll sand and finish them with the color and sheen you’ve selected. Our advanced dust collection system keeps your home clean during the process, while our premium commercial-grade coatings provide long-lasting protection for your floors.
Next, we move on to trim installation, an essential finishing touch. Our craftsmen will expertly install new base shoe or quarter-round to complete the look. The trim can be either stained or painted, depending on your desired style.
Our turnkey experience wouldn’t be complete without the coordination of a professional paint crew. They will caulk and paint your new base shoe, adding the perfect finishing touches to your floor installation.
Next, we conduct a final clean and quality control review. Our goal is to leave your home as clean, or cleaner, than when we arrived. Once your floor meets our high standards, we will schedule our movers to return all contents to their proper place.

Unfinished hardwood flooring is hardwood that has not been pre-finished with stain or a protective topcoat. It is installed in its raw, natural state, allowing for customization after installation. Once the hardwood is installed, it is sanded and stained to the homeowner’s preferred color and then sealed with a finish to protect the wood. This type of flooring offers a high level of customization, allowing the homeowner to choose the exact shade, finish, and sheen that suits their style. It also provides the flexibility of refinishing over time to restore the floor’s appearance. Unfinished hardwood planks can be solid or engineered.
The unfinished hardwood installation process typically takes longer than installing pre-finished hardwood due to the additional steps involved. On average, the complete process can take anywhere from 5 to 7 days, depending on factors such as the size of the area, the complexity of the layout, and the type of finish being applied. Here’s a general breakdown of the timeline:
The timeline may vary based on the specifics of the job, but overall, the process requires additional drying and curing time compared to pre-finished options.
Unfinished hardwood floors come in a variety of wood species, each offering unique characteristics in terms of hardness, grain patterns, and color tones. Some of the most popular species for unfinished hardwood floors include:
These species can be customized with stains and finishes to achieve the desired aesthetic, making unfinished hardwood floors a flexible and timeless choice for any home.
While dust and mess are common in many hardwood floor installation processes, Kimminau Floors takes extra precautions to minimize disruption during installation. If you’re opting for unfinished hardwood installation, there will be sanding and finishing steps that can create some dust, but we use advanced dustless sanding technology that captures most of the dust at the source, significantly reducing the mess.
Additionally, we take care to cover and protect your furniture, walls, and other surfaces to keep your home clean throughout the process. Our team works efficiently to ensure minimal disruption, and we conduct a thorough cleanup after installation, so your space is left looking pristine.
The material cost of unfinished hardwood is typically lower than that of its factory-finished counterpart. However, unfinished hardwood requires more labor, as it needs to be sanded and finished after installation. When factoring in the additional labor for finishing, the total cost of unfinished and factory-finished hardwood floors often ends up being very similar.
Yes, unfinished hardwood can be installed in most rooms of your home, including living rooms, dining rooms, hallways, and bedrooms. However, it’s generally not recommended for areas with high moisture, such as bathrooms or basements, as humidity can affect the wood’s stability. Always ensure the subfloor is dry and properly prepared, and consider consulting with a flooring professional to determine the best options for your specific environment.
