Do I need to leave the house to get my floors refinished?

This is one of the most common questions we receive whenever we conduct our consultations.  I would estimate about a third of our clients stay in the home during the refinishing process.  The answer will vary and depend on the layout of your home.

Fortunately, there have been several advances in the hardwood industry over the past decade.  These technological advances have dramatically improved dust collection measures and have provided several finish options that have very low VOC’s (volatile organic compounds).   The process has become much “greener” and the finishes now dry and cure much faster.   This limits the downtime and has made our refinishing efforts far more convenient for everyone involved.

We do however have to limit foot traffic while we’re sanding your floor.

We can’t have clients or contractors walking over the floor once we begin the sanding process.  If your home has basement access or allows you to enter and stay in the house without walking on the floors, then there is absolutely no reason you cannot stay in your home during the refinishing process.

We will provide a schedule for your project and indicate which days we have to limit the foot traffic.  The demo and installation phases of a project do not require any limitations on foot traffic.  When we begin the sanding, staining, and sealing phases…we must limit foot traffic to avoid any potential contamination issues.

Our mission is to provide clients with stress-free and turn-key solutions.  In order to stay true to our mission, we’re constantly looking at technological advances that will improve our service offerings.  We’re committed to staying at the forefront of technology and will always evaluate new finishing products that have improved durability, faster cure times, and lower VOC’s.

We understand the refinishing process can cause a disruption in your home and we will take every measure to limit the disruption as much as possible.
